The Head of BP Batam/Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Kepri Regional Police for their success in uncovering theft cases involving public facilities in Batam City.
Together with the Deputy Head of BP Batam/Deputy Mayor of Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, Amsakar Achmad conveyed his appreciation and thanks while attending a press conference, which was held at the Barelang Police Station, Thursday (2/4/2026).
In this disclosure, the Riau Islands Regional Police ranks, particularly the Barelang Resort Police and Batuampar Police Sector, have apprehended six theft perpetrators and two receivers.
From the results of the police investigator's examination, the perpetrators have committed the theft of traffic light control boxes, the theft of signal transmission tower equipment, and the theft of public street lighting cables.
“On behalf of the Batam City Government and BP Batam, we express our gratitude and appreciation to the Kepri Police and the community for uncovering the criminal acts committed by these suspects,” said Amsakar.
Amsakar explained that the items stolen by the suspect were directly related to the entire community of Batam City. In fact, on various occasions when he went down to the field, the community always conveyed their aspirations to add street lighting. However, the illuminated streets were damaged by stealing the street lamp cables.
“This is not a matter of the value of the stolen goods, but it is a matter of public facilities that disturb the community of Batam City as a whole. We hope the community can also actively participate if they find criminal acts. Report them immediately to the police or the Batam City Government,” he explained.
On that occasion, Amsakar also invited all residents to build synergy and a conducive atmosphere for Batam City. Currently, Amsakar emphasised that he, along with the Deputy Head of BP Batam/Deputy Mayor of Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, are working hard to provide the best for the residents of Batam City.
“So, we hope that counterproductive things like this will no longer grow in this city we love,” Amsakar concluded. (EI)
