Batam continues to strengthen its position as a premier digital investment destination in Southeast Asia.

This was marked by the signing of a series of strategic cooperation agreements between PT. PLN Batam and PT Digitalland Service One (DayOne), on Friday (17/4/2026) at the BP Batam Balairung Sari.

This activity marks a significant expansion of the digital infrastructure platform, aimed at supporting the development of a second hyperscale data center campus in Batam City.

These strategic steps were cemented through the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for Indonesia's Largest Data Centre Customer with a capacity of 511 MVA or equivalent to 450 megawatts (MW).

This agreement is projected to supply the energy needs for the phased development of DayOne's data centre at Kabil Industrial Tech Park (KITP) in 2026-2027.

Present at the event were the Head of BP Batam and Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad; the Deputy Head of BP Batam and Deputy Mayor of Batam, Li Claudia Chandra; the Chief Executive Officer of DayOne, Jamie Khoo; the President Director of PT. PLN Batam, Kwin Fo; members/deputies of BP Batam, officials from the Batam City Forkopimda, as well as leaders of industry associations in Batam City and their staff.

The head of BP Batam and Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad, affirmed that infrastructure readiness and regulatory ease are the main keys to attracting global investor interest.

In his view, the integration of land availability, legal certainty, and energy reliability under BP Batam's purview creates a regionally competitive ecosystem.

“BP Batam is committed to creating a conducive investment climate through accelerated licensing and the provision of integrated supporting infrastructure. The entry of this large-scale data centre project proves that Batam is ready to become a global digital hub,” said Amsakar.

Digital Hub Transformation

DayOne's expansion into the Kabil area follows the success of its previous project at Nongsa Digital Park (NDP).

Through the support of BP Batam and PT. PLN Batam, this development is designed as a high-performance platform to support artificial intelligence (AI)-based computing and cloud services for the Asia-Pacific region.

DayOne Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Khoo, revealed that the administrative ease facilitated by BP Batam was a crucial factor in the company's expansion decision.

“This expansion marks an important milestone in our strategy to build one of Asia's leading digital infrastructure platforms, including our Singapore-Johor-Batam (SIJORI) model that connects Singapore, Johor and Batam into the first truly integrated cross-border data centre platform in Southeast Asia,” Jamie explained.

Besides electrical aspects, BP Batam also encourages the use of clean energy for industrial sustainability.

This is realised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Batam Concession Agency (BP) Batam and PT. PLN Batam regarding the Development of a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity exceeding 200 MWp within the BP Batam Work Area.

This green energy initiative is the largest in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, and is expected to add value for investors who prioritise global sustainability standards.

Sustainable Synergy

The President Director of PT. PLN Batam, Kwin Fo, added that this collaboration is inseparable from the active role of BP Batam in synergising regulators with infrastructure providers.

“We believe that the synergy between PLN Batam and DayOne, with full support from BP Batam, will further strengthen Batam's position as a leading investment region and a digital economic growth centre in Southeast Asia,” said Kwin Fo.

In addition to the electricity supply, a MoU was also signed for Integrated Infrastructure Solutions for Data Centre Ecosystems, which includes studies on the provision of fibre optic networks and critical infrastructure maintenance services.

With synergy led by BP Batam, this region is now transforming into an important part of the SIJORI model.

The presence of these hyperscale data centres is expected to provide a multiplier effect for the local economy, create jobs in the technology sector, and strengthen national digital sovereignty.

“We hope that the cooperation agreement signed today will benefit all parties and make a real contribution to the regional economic growth and improvement of the investment climate in Batam City,” concluded Kwin Fo. (RUD)
