The Batam Concession Agency (BP) Batam, through its Port Management Directorate, consistently records positive operational performance.

Based on data from the Directorate of Port Management, in Q1 2026, the container handling volume increased by 12% compared to the same period in 2025. From a previous 166,000 TEUs, it rose to 187,000 TEUs.

From this throughput, 69% was supported by activity at Batu Ampar Container Terminal, reaching 128,556 TEUs or growing 22% compared to Q1 2025. Meanwhile, on the trade side, export and import activities dominated with a share of 74% of the total container traffic at Batam Port.

The performance of this logistics operation is also supported by general cargo loading and unloading activities, which reached 2.9 million tonnes, an increase of 8%compared to the same period last year of 2.6 million tonnes. The Kabil Liquid Bulk Terminal was the largest contributor with a volume of 1.09 million tonnes and growth of 21%.

Regarding ship visits, 27,170 calls were recorded, an increase of 4% compared to Q1 2025's 26,138 calls. Furthermore, the size of docked ships also showed an increase, with a total Gross Tonnage (GT) of 19.6 million GT, up 15% from the previous 16.9 GT. This figure, of course, illustrates that more and more large-capacity ships are operating in Batam's waters.

The Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad, emphasised that this achievement serves as tangible proof of the strengthening role of Batam as a strategic logistics hub in the region.

“The growth in this logistics sector shows that Batam is increasingly trusted as a regional connectivity hub. We will continue to strengthen the integrated port ecosystem to support logistics flows, investment, and sustainable mobility,” said Amsakar, Thursday (16/4/2026).

Besides logistics performance, the passenger service sector also shows significant growth. Throughout Q1 2026, the number of passengers at domestic and international ferry terminals within BP Batam's operational area was recorded at 2,507,630 people, an increase of 15% compared to the same period in 2025.

International routes still dominate with 1,316,495 passengers, an 11% increase%, particularly to Singapore and Malaysia. Meanwhile, domestic passengers recorded higher growth of 20%%to 1,191,135 people. Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal and Telaga Punggur Domestic Ferry Terminal became the busiest points in serving this mobility.

Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra added that performance improvements must be accompanied by better quality of service, in line with the expansion of the Batam Free Trade and Free Port Area through Government Regulation Number 47 of 2025.

“We encourage port services to be increasingly adaptive and responsive to the needs of service users, especially with the Widening operational area of KPBPB Batam. With the support of these regulations, we are optimistic that services will become more integrated so that the benefits of growth can be directly felt by the community and businesses,” said Li Claudia.

The Deputy/Business Development Member, Denny Tondano, who oversees the Directorate of Port Management, stated that his unit will continue to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and optimise services at all ports to maintain consistent improvements in performance and service quality.

“Going forward, we will continue to push for the digitalisation of services, including the improvement of e-ticketing and system integration between terminals, so that services become easier, faster, and more integrated for all users,” said Denny. (EI)
