Batam's economy closed 2025 with impressive performance. Central Statistics Agency (BPS) data recorded Batam's economic growth in Q4 2025 reaching 7.49 percent (year-on-year), a sharp increase compared to 3.27 percent in Q4 2024.
Strong acceleration at the end of the year also drove Batam's economic growth throughout 2025 to 6.76 percent, with Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) reaching Rp253.64 trillion.
Throughout 2025, Batam's economic growth showed a consistently increasing trend, from 5.17 percent in Q1, 6.66 percent in Q2, 6.89 percent in Q3, to peak at 7.49 percent in Q4.
Batam BP head, Amsakar Achmad, stressed that this performance reflects the strong role of industry and investment as Batam's main growth engine.
“Batam is growing because of industry and investment. When investment increased by 9.53 percent and the manufacturing industry contributed more than 57 percent to the GRDP, it shows that Batam's production engine is truly moving,” he said.
Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Candra, assessed that the increase in Q4 is an indicator that incoming investment is beginning to convert into production output.
“The surge in growth at the end of the year indicates that industrial expansion in Batam is beginning to yield real economic activity and is a strong foundation for maintaining growth momentum in 2026,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy for Investment and Business Development at BP Batam, Fary Francis, stated that the near double-digit investment growth signifies that Batam is entering a phase of production capacity expansion.
“Manufacturing remains the backbone of Batam's economy, contributing 57.01 percent to the GRP. The growth of the electricity and gas sector by 11.90 percent and real estate by 14.70 percent reflects increased industrial activity and the development of economic zones,” he explained.
With a continuously increasing growth trend each quarter, Batam is projected to remain one of the most dynamic economic growth hubs in Indonesia, particularly with the support of strengthening investments. (AP)
