BP Batam, together with PT ABH, is giving full attention to the handling of stress areas or areas experiencing water pressure disturbances.
In a coordination meeting to follow up on improvements to clean water services, Monday (9/3/2026), BP Batam and PT ABH discussed a number of efforts that will be made to optimise water supply to the community. One of these is to increase the water supply capacity to 850 litres per second.
This step will impact the total available supply capacity from 4,429 litres per second to 4,710 litres per second. This effort will also enable the switching of water supply to areas experiencing low water pressure.
“As per the directives of the Head and Deputy Head of BP Batam, we are working to ensure that this handling proceeds in stages and is measurable so that the provision of clean water to the community can become more stable,” said the Director of SPAM Business Entities and Facilities of BP Batam, Iyus Rusmana.
In addition, he also explained other efforts, namely with the reinforcement programme for the DK12 pipeline distribution network, which supplies several areas that have experienced low water pressure problems, including the Tanjung Sengkuang, Bengkong, and Batu Merah areas.
Through reinforcing the pipeline, Iyus stated that the water supply from the main pipe is assured to be more stable and will meet the community's needs.
“Public complaints are a serious concern for BP Batam. We are continuously striving to ensure that the handling of these 18 stress areas can be resolved,” he emphasised again.
During the meeting, BP Batam and PT ABH also touched upon the implementation of the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system.
SCADA is a technology system that enables the digital and real-time monitoring and control of water distribution networks.
Through this system, operators can monitor water pressure in the pipe network, detect distribution disturbances more quickly, and take more effective handling steps. With the implementation of this SCADA system, the water management authority also seeks to promote the management of the water distribution system in Batam to be more modern, responsive, and efficient.
“Currently, we are awaiting the completion of the water network development project along the Sukajadi, M3G to Bukit Senyum stretch. Various anticipatory measures have also been prepared so that there are no disruptions to the public supply during the work, he concluded. (DN)
